THE SOUNDS OF THE SENALES VALLEY
Sound research masterclass
August 31 to September 4, 2024
Senales Valley (Trentino Alto Adige, Italy)

The coordinator of Binaural Nodar, Luis Costa, conducted a sound research masterclass from August 31 to September 4 in the Alpine territory of Alto Adige, on the border between Italy and Austria, a region where the transhumance of sheep is a long-standing tradition.

During this five-day project, around 1,200 soundscapes of various types were recorded with 10 experts from various fields of knowledge taking part: entomology, documentary sound, geography, electroacoustic composition, philosophy, visual arts, etc.

Some of the sound material recorded will be included in a museum to be created in the town of Madonna di Senales, as well as the archive of the Réseau Tramontana European project, coordinated by Binaural Nodar.

Binaural Nodar would like to express its gratitude for the invitation made by the anthropologist Gianfranco Spitilli and the Bambun APS Association to coordinate this masterclass, as well as for the commitment of the participants and the hospitality of the people of these mountain communities in the Senales Valley.
