With Rui Lima
A co-production between Binaural Nodar and the Municipality of Vouzela, with the collaboration of Escola Profissional de Vouzela.
Composer Rui Lima was, for the second time, in artistic residency at Lafões Cult Lab between March 18th and 22nd, culminating in a concert for piano, voice and soundscapes, entitled “o centro da asímptota”.
The commented concert was attended by dozens of students from various courses at the Vouzela Professional School, who actively participated with comments on what they heard and what was explained by the author.
The electroacoustic composition, entitled “the center of the asymptote”, brings together the composition of sound recordings, voice, and improvised piano on written themes. It is a work that is simultaneously idiosyncratic and collaborative, imagery-metaphorical and concrete-descriptive, scientific and religious, which aims to portray some of the sensations that the landscape of the Vouga river hydrographic network axis, in two distinct points – Vouzela and Aveiro – transmits. The artist is the sensitive receptor to landscape stimuli, and serves as a small personal sample, a testimony to the public, re-transmitting sensations, ideas, images and thoughts acquired in the form of the composition. What impact does this landscape have on people, its symbiotic society, its inhabitants, and those who visit it?
Rui Lima is born in Lourosa, Aveiro. He graduated in Biology from the University of Aveiro in 2017 in an integrated internship in the area of ecotoxicology, studying the effects of herbicides and salinity on zooplankton species in estuarine water. At the same time as his degree, he studied composition. Since 2016, some original compositions have been performed sporadically, experimenting with various music and theater groups. In 2021, he obtained his Master’s degree in Music at UA, developing his composition technique and creating a work linked to other areas, inspired by the landscapes of the moons of the solar system.
In 2022, he published his first work, The Cliff, inspired by coastal geological strata; He was a resident artist through the Self-Mistake association. He has already participated in ten Erasmus+ program projects, including Training Courses (TC), exchanges and volunteering. At the same time, he is a freelancer, musician, in Devon (England).
