Throughout the period of this project, entitled “Echoes of Leaving and Returning”, dozens of interviews were carried out in several villages of the municipality of Viseu, a retrospective exhibition was conceived and open at the Linen Museum of Vázrea de Calde, two artist residencies were hosted with the presence of national and international artists and workshops were held for children about their own family memories of emigration.
In the last two weeks, three artistic projects have been developed in the civil parish of Côta and in adjacent territories that reflect on the theme of emigration, using different concepts and artistic approaches, which will be presented to the public:
On the one hand, the Binaural Nodar team, composed of Ana Margarida Ferreira, Liliana Silva and Luís Costa will present a documentary short film that collects testimonies of former emigrants originating from the various villages of the Parish of Côta, who mentioned sensory aspects of their experience abroad. On the other hand, artists Sofia Balbontín (Chile) and José Bica (Portugal) will present two immersive sound works, based on recordings made in landscapes and with local communities.
Finally, the ASDRC Nogueira de Côta will present a performance by students from its music school, and the session will end with the screening of the documentary “António, lindo António” by Ana Maria Gomes, a family story related to emigration and traveling between a village in the Viseu region and Brazil, in a proposal by the Cine Clube de Viseu.
The organization will also offer the local population and visitors to the event a community snack.
This event has the financial support of the Municipality of Viseu.
