“Re-interiorization of landscapes”
Artist residency
November 10th to 20th, 2022
Lafões Cult Lab (Vouzela)

Binaural Nodar continues its partnership with the Self-Mistake project by hosting an artist residency entitled “Re-interiorization of landscapes” by the composer Rui Lima.

The environment and the landscape alter our perception of the world, and on the other hand, we project our individual and collective emotions and aspirations onto the landscape. The recording of Vouzela’s landscape will be recomposed, and will serve as the context over which an improvised interpretation by the composer and instrumentalist Rui Lima will take place.

Rui Lima was born in Lourosa, Santa Maria da Feira and attended the Academia de Música de Paços de Brandão, where he studied piano and choir and had musical training. In 2017 he graduated in Biology at the University of Aveiro and, in parallel to his degree, he studied composition with Evgueni Zoudilkine and José Luís Postiga, and orchestral direction with António Vassalo Lourenço at the University of Aveiro. Since 2016, his original compositions have been interpreted through different participations in music and theater groups, chamber music ensembles, electronic music and fusion groups, youth orchestras, and especially choral groups. Under the guidance of composer Isabel Soveral, he created the final Master’s work, “Choral Moons” (2019-2020), where he explored the moons of the solar system through an artistic narrative, integrating scientific research (musical, linguistics, aesthetics, astronomy and astrogeology).

Self-Mistake promotes artistic creation, in a context of experimentation and risk, in the areas of dance and contemporary performance. It supports the development of artistic processes, as well as the sharing of creations in alternative contexts. By welcoming risk and innovation, Self-Mistake encourages the experience of error in artistic creation as a fundamental step towards transformation and transcendence.

This artist residency is produced by Binaural Nodar with the logistical support of the Municipality of Vouzela.

Binaural Nodar is a professional cultural entity co-financed with biennial support from the General Directorate of Arts.
