This volume with 128 pages and QR codes to access sound and audiovisual materials is an account of some of the many encounters that characterized the six years of Tramontana Network’s project, established with the support of the Creative Europe program.

This project is dedicated to documentation, study, safeguarding and the creative dissemination of cultural heritage from European rural and mountain areas and is carried out by eight cultural organizations engaged in fieldwork activities conducted with local communities,  with whom an uninterrupted and dense dialogue is established.

The publication includes eight long interviews, representing eight subjects arising from the rural world, forming a reflection on the changes that have taken place in the social, cultural, economic and political life of European mountain areas. These interviews have been recorded in the last six years by the various researchers from Tramontana network.

The places of origin of the testimonies are sometimes distant hundreds or thousands of kilometers; however, they are all connected by fine connections in terms of lifestyles, ways of thinking and the impact of changes – often radical – that have marked the 20th century in all regions of the European continent. The interviews included in the volume were collected in Zakopane in Poland, Sartaguda in Spain, Aldeia de Sul in Portugal, Montgauch, Montaner and Clarac in France, Salle and Penna Sant’Andrea in Italy by the different project partners (Akademia Profil, Audiolab, Bambun , Binaural Nodar, Eth Ostau Comengés, Associazione LEM-Italia, Nosauts de Bigòrra and Numériculture Gascogne).
