The exhibition ‘Women of Water in the Parish of Calde’ opened on 26 October at the Várzea de Calde Linen Museum, attended by a large crowd of people, especially women, representing the various villages in the parish of Calde.

The coordinator of Binaural Nodar, Luís Costa, and the president of Calde Parish Council, José Fernandes, gave a few words to contextualise the exhibition and Binaural Nodar’s decade-long work in the various villages of the parish.

The exhibition ‘Women of Water in the Parish of Calde’ is a tribute to all the women, young and old, in the parish of Calde, highlighting the deep intergenerational cohesion of these lands located to the north of the city of Viseu, as well as establishing a symbolic relationship between women and water, which is present in so many cultures and civilisations, such as the placenta of the pregnant woman, the water of baptism; water and purification of the body, water for watering the fields, water and psychological well-being, etc.

‘’Women of Water in the Parish of Calde‘’ is also part of the European Tramontana Network, an initiative co-funded by the Creative Europe programme and which brings together 11 partners from 7 countries, with the cultural heritage of mountain regions as a theme for multidisciplinary intervention, in the areas of ethnographic sound and audiovisual research, ethnographic and artistic education, development of digital archives, and contemporary artistic creation and programming.

Binaural Nodar is an organization supported by the Portuguese Republic – Culture | Directorate-General for the Arts.
