WOMEN OF WATER IN THE PARISH OF CALDE
From October 26th to November 22nd, 2024
Opening: October 26th at 3pm
Among the many thematic dimensions that have been explored in recent years, the presence of water as a cultural reality has motivated a series of creative projects (audiovisual collections, exhibitions and artist residencies), given its importance for the environmental, economic and social sustainability of these communities.
On the other hand, the role of the rural women of the parish, in the context of the processes of perpetuating memory and social dynamisation, has always deeply touched the Binaural Nodar team, and over the years a ‘blanket’ of complicity and friendship has been woven with the female universe, which has greatly facilitated the processes of community mediation. As Binaural Nodar returns to the parish of Calde for an ongoing intervention, it is proposed to link these two dimensions: water and women.
Taking advantage of the occasion of the celebration of International Rural Women’s Day on October 15th, the creative project ‘Women of Water in the Parish of Calde’ kicks off in October. The final result will be a photographic and sound exhibition by Luís Costa and Ana Margarida Ferreira.
The aim of this project is also to pay homage to all the women, young and old, from the parish of Calde, highlighting the deep intergenerational cohesion of these lands located to the north of the city of Viseu, as well as establishing a symbolic relationship between women and water, which is present in so many cultures and civilisations, such as the placenta of pregnant women, baptismal water; water and purification of the body, water for watering fields, water and psychological well-being, etc.
