Binaural Nodar announces that it will take the lead on the fourth Tramontana Network project, funded under the Creative Europe Program, to be developed between July 1, 2024 and October 31, 2027.

In the context of this project, the first Tramontana Forum will be held from September 15 to 19 in Kamionki (Poland), with the presence of all the partners in this European project.

The aim of the Tramontana Network is to document, process, analyze, restore and disseminate the intangible cultural heritage of Europe’s rural and mountain societies, using innovative, creative, participatory and dynamic approaches and tools. This approach is essentially inspired by the principles set out in the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (adopted in Paris on October 17, 2003 by UNESCO) and the Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (adopted in Faro on October 27, 2005 by the Council of Europe), which we must apply to the peripheral areas of the Continent.

Created in 2011, the Tramontana Network currently has eleven members from seven different countries, working in Spain (Audiolab), France (Radio Pais, Eth Ostau Comengés and Numérculture Gascogne), Italy (Bambun, La Leggera and LEM-Italia), Poland (Akademia Profil), Portugal (Binaural Nodar), Romania (ORMA) and Albania (GO2 Albania), as well as dozens of associated partners in the various regions of the project. All these entities, which have different but complementary histories, missions, approaches and methodological approaches, recognize each other and unite around one mission: the study, safeguarding and creative restitution of the intangible cultural heritage of the European mountains where they operate.

Recipient of the Creative Europe Success Story title in 2018, the Tramontana Network also received a Grand Prize from the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2020 in the Research category.

One of the aims of Tramontana IV is to consolidate a pan-European platform for action and cooperation based on an integrated and collaborative methodology for anthropological, ethnomusicological and linguistic research, cataloging and digital archiving, artistic co-creation (in situ and virtual) and the transmission and communication of results, using contemporary formats and languages applied to the intangible cultural heritage of Europe’s rural and mountain societies.

Creation and international circulation will thus be pursued, favouring shared creation, the mobility of actors and artists, research and works in the different phases of the project, as well as the sharing of experiences and knowledge between the different teams during the phases of reciprocal training, research and creative production, including dematerialised forms of research and joint creation at a distance.

The themes that will be addressed during the fieldwork developed collectively by all the partners are agro-pastoralism and transhumance, water cultures and ethno-ecology, and

finally social and cultural mobility and the corresponding perceptions generated in relation to agricultural landscapes and food production.

Finally, in the context of the multiple actions of this European project, Binaural Nodar will work actively with local partners such as the Municipality of Viseu, the Municipality of Castro Daire, the Municipality of Vouzela, the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro, the Vocational School of Vouzela, the Parish Council of Calde and many others.
