ELEMENTARY ALLOMORPHY
An artistic residency on the theme of black clay from Ribolhos With Ana Margarida Ferreira
From August 13th to 31st, 2024
Ribolhos, Castro Daire

A co-production between Binaural Nodar, the Municipality of Castro Daire, through the Castro Daire Municipal Library and the Mamouros, Alva and Ribolhos UF.

As part of the regular programming of the Oficina do Barro Negro de Ribolhos, a museum opened in September 2023, an artist’s residency by Ana Margarida Ferreira is being held from August 13 to 31.

The creative project, entitled “Elementary Allomorphy”, is based on a reflection on the forces of nature present in the process of creating with black clay, such as earth, water, air and fire. The master potter searches for the clay in watery lands and then brings the earth and water together to make the clay. Once the piece is finished, the clay rests in a drying process, losing the element of air. Finally, the fire encompasses and transforms the piece into something immutable, with its firing.

In “Elemental Allomorphy” the progressive stages for the construction of black clay pieces will be represented through two symmetrical pieces of wood, but with different textures, to which a sound component will be associated, focusing on the elements of water, fire and air.

Ana Margarida Ferreira has a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto and a master’s degree in Contemporary Artistic Creation from the University of Aveiro. She has already taken part in group exhibitions such as “Da Sombra” (Ermesinde, 2020), “Estado de Emergência” (Viseu, 2021), “Entre Tempos e Lugares” (Aveiro, 2022) and “Hippocampus” (Vilnius, 2023). In 2023 she developed the creative project “Janelas de Outrora”, conceived and inaugurated in the village of Nogueira de Côta (Viseu) and since March 2023 she has been a production and multimedia technician at Binaural Nodar.
