THE ART OF THE CARAMULAN ENCOUNTER
ARTIST RESIDENCY
2nd to 5th May 2024
Municipality of Vouzela

Public presentation
Saturday, 4th May, from 5pm
Lafões Cult Lab (Vouzela)

A co-production between the Masters in Contemporary Artistic Creation (MCAC/UA) at the University of Aveiro and Binaural Nodar, with logistical support from the Municipality of Vouzela.

In 2024, the Master’s in Contemporary Artistic Creation at the University of Aveiro and Binaural Nodar will celebrate thirteen years of their ongoing partnership, in which multiple joint activities have been developed over the years, including an annual artist residency, co-organised in the territory of Viseu Dão Lafões since 2011 and which, in 2022, led to the retrospective exhibition “Between times and places”, which took place in the building of the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro. The concept of this long-standing partnership has been linked to the idea of complementarity, both territorially – the River Vouga as a symbol of the connection between mountain and maritime communities – and artistically – soundscapes and sound art as interesting areas for inclusion in contemporary artistic creation projects from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Between the 2nd and 5th of May, the town of Vouzela and the surrounding villages will once again be the stage for this collaborative artist residency, attended by around twenty teachers and students from the University of Aveiro’s Masters in Contemporary Artistic Creation, which includes a strong idea of contact: with the landscape, with the direct word and with empathy between different ways of living and inhabiting. A return to contact with the land, attentive listening and the unmediated sharing of memories. It also welcomes back the bodies, voices and desires for creative expression on the part of young artists.
