A co-production between Binaural Nodar and the Municipality of Castro Daire.

Binaural Nodar, the Municipal Library and the Municipality of Castro Daire announce the opening, on April 25th, 2024, of the audiovisual installation “O Alvor da Democracia em Castro Daire” (The Dawn of Democracy in Castro Daire), which includes some accounts of how the revolution of April 25th, 1974 was lived and perceived in the municipality of Castro Daire, in the context of the interviewees’ own life history, before and after the revolution: Abilio Pereira de Carvalho, Celeste Almeida, Eulália Teixeira, Delfim Rocha, António Almeida and Luísa Oliveira.

Alongside excerpts from the stories, the installation will include photographs taken by Colonel Manuel Cruz Fernandes, with authorization for their use granted by the Commission for the History of Military Transmissions, relating to the Cultural Dynamization and Civic Action Campaigns of the Armed Forces Movement that took place in multiple villages in Castro Daire until May 1976, campaigns that were conducted with some controversy and heated discussions, largely due to the more conservative nature of part of the population of the Montemuro mountain range.

Binaural Nodar is a cultural organization supported by the Portuguese Republic – Culture | Directorate-General for the Arts.
