Binaural Nodar is pleased to announce the second artist residency and public presentation of Rui Catalão’s new project, entitled “Mal de Ulisses”, which will take place between October 15th and 20th. During the stay in Vouzela, rehearsals will be held with the artistic team and with students from the Vouzela Vocational School who took part in the project’s first artist residency, which happened last May. At the end of the residency, there will be a public presentation for the educational community of the school.
Portugal’s recent history has witnessed two little-studied migratory experiences: those who left the country during the dictatorship and those who arrived in the era of the European Union. A depiction of a Portuguese society undergoing rapid change, “Mal de Ulisses” brings together testimonies of a part of the country that is disappearing and another one that is emerging.
A traumatic epic of those who left their countries of origin in search of another future, in “Mal de Ulisses” old emigrants and young immigrants tell their story: why they left their families, their way of life and the problems they faced adapting.
