REBORDINHO: A VILLAGE PORTRAYED
A documentary by Liliana Silva
The documentary published, “Rebordinho: A village portrayed”, became an integral part of the photographic and audiovisual exhibition of the same title, presented by a co-production between Binaural – Associação Cultural de Nodar and the Board of Directors of the Local Community of Baldios de Rebordinho and Malhadouro, in addition to the support of the Parish of Campia and the Municipality of Vouzela.
Despite the inexorable passage of time and the inevitable urbanization/modernization of rural villages, Rebordinho remains to be a place where a person can still live with a sense of community, surrounded by nature dripping with history and authenticity. Its singularities are presented through the eyes and voice of Celeste Fernandes, António Batista, Aventino Pereira and José Ribeiro; four inhabitants of this magnificent village in the heart of the parish of Campia, Municipality of Vouzela.
“Rebordinho: A Village Portrayed” is thus a journey through history, taking us all the way back to the first decades of the twentieth century. From an economic perspective – agriculture and cattle breeding were a primordial source of food and financial support of mainly all families – social values, passing through the cultural and artistic aspect, where there are many memories that arrive to us throughout these testimonies.
In this markedly rural village, interpersonal relationships accompanied by a community spirit where the villagers mutually help one another, together with the value of the spoken promise, had long been a cornerstone. In spite of the difficulties, there was always entertainment. On days where the snack would be reinforced, due to the harvests, the pilgrimages, the Feast of Santa Ana, the Carnival and beyond, the joy would be multiplied, as well as the ethnographic traditions.
Childhood games, emblematic personalities, the first commercial spaces in the village and the days of teaching these traditions are also part of the community’s memories. Not surprisingly certain rivalries haven’t been forgotten, noticed in some of the testimonies that come to us, where a few chords of the concertina of António Correia and Márcio Henriques punctuate.
More recently, the history of the village is marked by the creation of the Board of Directors of the Local Community of the Baldios of Rebordinho and Malhadouro, which brought a new spark to its development.
