GYROVAGUS
Artist Residency
Teatro do Frio
July 13th – 15th, 2023
Lafões Cult Lab (Vouzela)

Binaural Nodar will host during three days one of the itinerant artist residencies of the GYROVAGUS, a project by Teatro do Frio.

GYROVAGUS is a research and artistic creation project that crosses the fields of music, anthropology, psychogeography and cinema. sound designer-performer Rodrigo Malvar, and anthropologist-videographer Gonçalo Mota were challenged to do two bicycle expeditions between Viana do Castelo and Coimbra for a body-to-body encounter with the territory. The project is also supported by the sound design of actor and musician Henrique Apolinário. The sound and image collection of the meetings/residencies will result in “TOUR”, a concert-performance with video projection.

GYROVAGUS activates an informal network of partners, articulating mostly peripheral territories with the urban centers of Viana do Castelo, Porto and Coimbra and uses the electric bicycle as a means of transport with a reduced footprint, with a view to minimizing the impact on ecosystems and creating informal networks of collaboration, circulation and communication.

In this expedition, the two travelers will also have moments of residency where they will enter into research, reflection and articulation, balancing their observations of the natural sphere with the artistic approaches. These moments will happen in the context of the network of partners that includes Binaural Nodar, Linha de Fuga, Associação Cultural e Recreativa DesnorteArte, among others.

Gyrovagus will return to its starting point, Aguda, culminating in the presentation of the show “TOUR”, to be presented at Associação Cultural e Recreativa DesnorteArte, on July 28th
