Binaural Nodar made a first field visit related to a project of sound collections and contemporary artistic creation in the Municipality of Pombal, Municipality of Ansião and Municipality of Figueiró dos Vinhos, in areas located either on the slopes of the Serra de Sicó (Pombal and Ansião) and on where shale and granite are evident (Figueiró dos Vinhos).
The project is entitled “The singing stone” and covers a set of subjects linked to geological aspects and uses of stone, such as stone and gravel extraction activities, bricklayer and stonemason works, the traditional architecture reflected in the housing constructions, dry stone walls, fountains and other constructions and, finally, the existence of local sculptors who transformed the stone into works of art, as were the emblematic cases of an uncle and nephew, Simões de Almeida Júnior and José Simões de Almeida (Sobrinho) who both worked in Figueiró dos Vinhos.
“The singing stone” is part of the Territories of Stone project co-financed by the EU program Centro 2020/FEDER and will have as a final result a sound, photographic and drawing exhibition, by Luís Costa, Nely Ferreira and Liliana Silva (sound and photographic aspects) and Mónica Garcia (drawing, painting and printmaking), which will open in the last quarter of the year in the three municipalities, on dates and places to be announced.
