Friday, 23.March.2012, 2.30pm - 5.00pm Free Admission Luís Costa, coordinator of Binaural/Nodar, will give a conference at the University of Aveiro entitled "The Sound Waves of the Rual World and the Sensorial Enrichment of the Tourist Experience", organized by the Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences . This conference will consist of a general presentation of Binaural/Nodar's cultural project in media arts, developed in the Gralheira Mountain Range - São Pedro do Sul municipality, with special emphasis on the projects related with the sonic experience of the territory and its potential in the enrichment of the tourist experience.

The narrative is a partially fictionalized and personalized account of the maritime history of Portugal, enacted by a dancer, a vocal performer, live video performer, live electronic composer, and other artists. The project is inspired by various texts related to maritime journeys and Portuguese history and culture. In her presentation at EMF, Colbert will discuss her use of site-specific field recordings of tectonic plates, earthquakes, and tidal movements in the piece. She will also address how flora, fauna, constelations and maritime navigation techniques have influenced the work.

Cycle of Debates of ARTE LISBOA 2011 Friday, November 25th | 7.00pm Debate "I want to be an artist. And now what? Will I have to emigrate?" FIL, Parque das Nações, Lisbon Luís Costa, coordinator of Binaural/Nodar will be present at the Cycle of Debates of the Arte Lisboa 2011 - Contemporary Art Fair. He will address the role of artist residencies in the support to the artistic creation, the lack of these kind of platforms in Portugal and in what way they can be essential to the young artists.
2º Festival Vibracional TPS Saturday 4.June.2011, 1.30pm Xesús Valle (computer) & Rui Costa (computer) Cidade da Cultura, Santiago de Compostela (ES) Rui Costa, artistic director of Binaural/Nodar will participare in 2º Festival Vibracional TPS, to take place on Saturday, 4.June.2011 at Cidade da Cultura, in Santiago de Compostela (Spain). The event is organized by TPS - Centro de Novas Tecnoloxias do Pico Sagro, a collective of multidisciplinary Galician artists focused on the free improvisation practice as an artistic and collective work method . Rui Costa will play with the Galician musician Xesus Valle as a duo and their presentation will be based on the creation of harmonic and polyrhythmic structures from the improvised interplay between the artists, using granular synthesis. The sound elements from the real world will be subjected to an abstraction and formalization process in order to obtain primordial acoustic elements that can be molded by the artists.

Paivascapes #1 - Paiva River Sound Festival will be the subject of Patrick McGinley's Framework radio show to be first broadcasted on the London-based Resonance 104.4 FM station, on April 10th at 10:00pm local time and following on several European and US radio stations. The radio piece to be broadcasted was composed by Rui Costa and is entitled "Around the River Bend". It features a variety of locations, times of day, seasons, and contexts including recordings of the Paivascapes #1 festival performances, source material collected by the artists for their sound and audiovisual installations, sound clips included in Binaural/Nodar's Paiva River Sound Mapping project, spontaneous recordings of social gatherings during the festival, and improvisations made by children inspired by the river soundscapes or by the names of the places where the festival happened, etc..
